About Jake
Jake Quan is a Bay Area based saxophonist and flautist, specializing in bebop, modern jazz, and jazz fusion. After listening to the artistry and technical mastery of the likes of Bob Berg, Sonny Rollins, and Dexter Gordon, he found himself locked inside his room, practicing every moment he could. Jake has studied under a wide variety of renowned musicians he considers to be his biggest influences, such as Steve Feierabend, Kasey Knudsen, and most notably, Dann Zinn and Mary Fettig.
Jake has had the privilege of being selected for numerous nationally acclaimed ensembles, such as the Jazz Band of America, SFJazz High School All Stars, NYO Jazz Orchestra (Alternate), California Jazz Conservatory Studio Band and Advanced High School Workshop, along with various others. He has performed at venues such as the North Sea, Umbria, Vienne, Venito, Jazz Education Network, Yamaha Music For All, and Essentially Ellington jazz festivals, SFJazz Center, Yoshis Oakland, Freight and Salvage, Chase Center, Palace Hotel, and Backroom Berkeley to name a few.
Throughout his time in high school, Jake has also found himself in the recording studio frequently, being featured on tracks with the SFJazz High School All Stars, CJC Studio Band and Advanced Workshop, and Marlo.
Outside of music, Jake enjoys running and biking all across the Bay, from the Berkeley Hills to Santa Cruz.
